How much does it cost to build a mobile app in India in 2026?

Most Indian app development quotes land between $8,000 and $120,000+, and the gap is not about the hourly rate. It is about scope, platforms and how much of the product is genuinely custom. Here is how the number is built.

How much does it cost to build a mobile app in India in 2026?

The short answer

These are the ranges we typically see for apps built by a senior Indian team working on a fixed scope. Treat them as planning numbers, not a quote: MVP (one core flow, one or two platforms): $8,000 to $25,000. Mid-size product (accounts, payments, admin panel, integrations): $25,000 to $60,000. Complex product (real-time features, marketplaces, AI, heavy compliance): $60,000 to $120,000+.

The same scope in the US or Western Europe usually costs two to four times as much. The difference is real, but it comes from local salary and overhead, not from a lower standard of engineering. A good Indian team will give you the same architecture, the same testing and the same release discipline.

What actually drives the price

  • Scope, not screens. Ten simple screens cost less than three screens with payments, offline sync and role-based permissions.
  • Platforms. iOS plus Android from one cross-platform codebase adds roughly 20 to 30 percent over a single platform. Two separate native apps nearly double it.
  • Backend and integrations. Every third-party API (payments, maps, KYC, CRM) adds design, build and testing time.
  • Design depth. A clean, system-based UI is faster to ship than a fully bespoke motion-heavy one.
  • Compliance and security. Healthcare, fintech and anything handling children's data add review and documentation work.

Native or cross-platform?

For most products, a cross-platform build is the cheaper and faster route with no visible penalty for users. We usually recommend React Native when your team already works in JavaScript, and Flutter when pixel-level custom UI matters. We compare the two in detail in Flutter vs React Native in 2026. Go fully native only when you depend on deep platform features such as advanced AR, background Bluetooth or heavy camera processing.

Where founders overspend

Building version three on day one. Admin dashboards with twelve report types, referral engines and in-app chat are all reasonable, and none of them are needed to learn whether people want the product. Cutting the first release to one core flow is the single biggest saving available. This is exactly the trade-off behind shipping an MVP in 8 weeks.

Choosing on hourly rate alone. A $15 per hour team that needs three rebuilds costs more than a $30 per hour team that gets it right once. Ask for a fixed scope, a written plan and named people instead of comparing rates.

Skipping discovery. One or two weeks of scoping and clickable prototypes costs a small fraction of the build and removes the most expensive kind of mistake, which is building the wrong thing.

Costs people forget

  • Apple Developer ($99 per year) and Google Play ($25 one-time) accounts
  • Cloud hosting, push notifications, email and SMS, usually $50 to $300 per month at early scale
  • Maintenance and OS updates, typically 15 to 20 percent of the build cost per year
  • App store assets, privacy policy and review iterations

How to get a number you can trust

Write down the one thing a user must be able to do on day one, list the platforms, and name any integrations. With that, a good team can give you a fixed range quickly. We do exactly this: send us a brief and you get a fixed quote and a build plan within 48 hours, as described in The 48-hour quote.

If you are still deciding what to build first, our MVP development service is designed for that stage. If you already know the scope, see how our app development team works.

The takeaway

Expect roughly $8,000 to $25,000 for a focused MVP and plan for maintenance after launch. Control the cost with scope, a single codebase and a tight first release, and judge any quote by how clearly it explains what is included rather than by how low it is.
