7 UI/UX mistakes that quietly kill your app and website conversions

Most conversion problems are not traffic problems. They are small design decisions that make people hesitate. These are the seven we see most.

7 UI/UX mistakes that quietly kill your app and website conversions

1. No single clear next step

If a page offers five equally loud buttons, visitors pick none. Choose one primary action per screen and make everything else visibly secondary.

2. Slow first impressions

People judge a product in the first seconds. Heavy pages and janky screens read as low quality before any design is seen. We cover a real example in how we cut a dashboard from 6 seconds to 1.2.

3. Forms that ask for too much

Every extra field loses people. Ask only for what you need now, use the right mobile keyboard, show errors inline and let people sign up with one tap where possible.

4. Vague copy on buttons and headings

"Submit" and "Learn more" tell users nothing. Say what happens next: "Get my quote", "Start free trial". Headlines should state the benefit in plain words.

5. Ignoring mobile thumbs

  • Tap targets under about 44px
  • Key actions at the top where thumbs cannot reach
  • Text that needs zooming
  • Sticky banners that cover half the screen

6. Missing trust signals

New visitors look for proof: real client names, results, reviews, clear pricing and contact details. Put them next to the decision point, not buried in the footer.

7. Designing without testing

Opinions are cheap and users are honest. Five short sessions with real users will reveal most problems. A structured review helps too; see the 30-minute design crit that actually changes the work.

The takeaway

Fix clarity, speed and friction first, in that order, before touching visual polish. If you want a second pair of eyes, our UI/UX design team runs focused audits, or send us a brief and we will tell you where we would start.
